Lo-Fi tries to turn back time for digital photographs

February 27th, 2011

With a cutesy camera-shaped interface, users can drag and drop photo files into Lo-Fi and play with a range of effects that mimic the photographic mistakes of the past. Users can modify their pictures one at a time or apply changes to a group of images. “Film” effects let you play with the grain of a photo, “Mood” settings give you the opportunity to mess with the colors and other effects, and “Frame” settings let you pick how to set off the whole effect. There’s also a randomizer button to get you started. The application also offers one-click sharing options for Flickr and Facebook, and the user gets quite a bit control over which specific groups see the images and at what security levels.

At $29, the price is steep, and real photo enthusiasts probably would rather do it themselves instead of using the cookie-cutter effects that the app has to offer. But Lo-Fi is a fun application and a neat way to add a little old-school flair to your digital images.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)
Feb 16, 2011 – Like other portable consumer electronic devices digital cameras use batteries as their power source. All batteries have http://www.batteryfast.com/dell/inspiron-1526.htm one major drawback: they only last for a limited time. In this article we will explain what camera features consume the most energy and how you can squeeze more life time out of your digital camera battery.

There are many types of battery. Your digital camera might be using disposable batteries or maybe it uses rechargeable ones. Rechargeable batteries use a variety of technologies such as nickel cadmium, lithium ion or lithium polymer.http://www.batteryfast.com/dell/inspiron-1200.htm  Battery technology has advanced in the last years but batteries life time is still considerably short. It is very frustrating to come across a great photo opportunity just to find out that you have run out of batteries.

 # Do not press the shutter button half way down for no reason: Every time you press the shutter button half way down and do not take a photo you waste energy. When pressing the shutter button half way down the camera goes through a series of processes getting ready to shoot a photo. It focuses the lenses it wakes up electronic components and gets the flash ready if needed. Avoid pressing the shutter half way down when you do not plan to shoot a photo.

 # Carry another battery: Two batteries have twice the energy as one. Carry an extra battery if you are planning for a long shooting session or if you are not sure how many photos you will shoot and how long you will be away from your charger. Some photographers always carry an extra battery with them – batteries are very small and light and carrying an extra one is really not a burden. One thing to remember when carrying an extra battery is to always make sure that you are carrying an extra battery that is fully charged there is no use in carrying an empty battery. Batteries tend to lose their charge even if they are not used so if you are carrying an extra battery for a few days or more remember to recharge it even if you did not use it.
 # Recharge whenever you can: Charge your battery (or batteries if you carry an extra one) at least once a day or whenever you are back to your office, home or hotel. Even if you did not take many photos and you think the batteries have enough power in them it is better to make sure by fully charging them rather than to take the risk. You never know how long your next photo shooting session will be and when will your next recharge opportunity will be. Batteries slowly lose their charge even when not used so always recharge your extra battery too even if it was not used.
 # Dell b130 1330 Battery
 # Inspiron B130 1300 B120 KD186
 # Volt: 11.1V
   Capacity: 4400mAh
 # List Price : AUD $93.90
 # Now Price : AUD $72.23

 # Plan for battery consumption: The most important thing is to plan for battery consumption. For example if you are leaving your office for a short photo shooting session of an hour you are not going to have any battery issues. In such cases you can ignore all the guidelines and just shoot photos freely in the way that is most convenient to you. If you are going out for a long day of photo shooting in scenarios that require flash and maybe continuous focusing (just as shooting a sports event)  http://www.batteryfast.com/hp/nc6400.htm – plan ahead for power consumption take an extra battery or maybe two refrain from using features that are not necessary for your session such as previewing photos on the LCD or using the LCD as a viewfinder.

In conclusion until battery technologies improve to the extent that battery life is so long that it practically lasts forever you will have to be conscious about how you use your digital camera in respect to power consumption. Following a few simple guidelines can significantly improve power consumption and make your batteries last longer.

SeaLife Mini II Dive & Sport digital camera for casual users

February 27th, 2011

If you’re one who tends to love spending your vacation time near beaches as well as diving and snorkeling spots instead of the great outdoors in the mountains far away from civilization, then you would do well to tote around some sort of underwater-capable digital camera. We’re looking at either an underwater case for your camera, or if you want to get more direct, a waterproof shooter.

SeaLife intends to cater for that particular market with their new Mini II Dive Sport digital camera, as this 9-megapixel shooter might be small in stature, but it is definitely no slouch when it comes to performance. Capable of shooting all your great underwater and outdoor adventures, the Mini II also comes with an intuitive interface so that you need not waste precious oxygen underwater when panicking on fiddling with its controls.

One standout feature of the Mini II would be its ruggedness – how many of you can say the same for your underwater equipment? Granted, this is a whole lot cheaper than the professional gear that you tote around, so the Mini II clearly targets casual users instead of seasoned professionals. The truly amphibious shooter is both waterproof and shockproof, where it is guaranteed to function underwater at depths down to 130 feet without the need for an external housing.

Not only that, its rubber armor also delivers a surefire grip, even when it is wet, and will still be able to keep on shooting even if you drop it from 2 meters high. An unbreakable ruggedized body more or less makes the Mini II virtually crushproof, but we wouldn’t want to take the chance by having a shark bite into this since we’re sure it will be crushed in no time.

There are new underwater modes in the Mini II, making it a snap to use and eliminate the common blue hues of images taken underwater. With the Land Auto mode, it will automatically control exposure and internal flash. When you’re underwater, the Sea Mode brightens up the exposure while eliminating the “blue effect,” and the Snorkel Mode controls exposure and color correction in shallow-water settings.

Would you fork out $259.95 to bring the SeaLife Mini II with you on your next diving adventure?

Keep your home and business secure

Keeping your home and business secure is a cinch with Xvision’s remote-access IP CCTV camera.

Xvision logoProtection and security in a tech-enabled world are becoming increasingly difficult. Most of us have social-networking accounts where we post personal details for public consumption. We also use geo-tagging on smartphones to reveal our exact location, and this information can be uploaded to online feeds for mass consumption. But it’s not just our online digital trace we should be protecting. Whether it’s data, loved ones or property, in the office, on the road or at home, we all have something we want to guard.

Britain is already one of the most watched nations on Earth, with CCTV security cameras almost everywhere you look. Sadly, most security solutions are marred by low-quality, pixellated images that are hard to define. Despite this lack of image quality, home and business users have come to rely on the technology for their security cameras. However, the biggest problem small businesses face is that their security cameras are becoming redundant: in a connected world, there are better solutions.

Now IP CCTV security camera manufacturer Xvision has cherrypicked the best existing technology, and updated it with HD quality playback and motion detection. Xvison IP CCTV security cameras marry this to the sort of next-generation technology you only get in a connected world. The company’s portfolio provides peace of mind by giving end users a range of solutions to suit their protection needs.

Cameras can be installed at home to watch over loved ones, or outside to monitor business properties. None of what we describe so far is ground-breaking – the neat trick Xvision adds is accessibility. Users can monitor content in any viable situation. The cameras can be used over a Wi-Fi connection or plugged into a network via a LAN cable.

Best of all, each camera has an IP address. This means your protected stuff can be remotely accessed from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You can even hook up a smartphone and control the webcam over 3G. If you wish, you can record multiple streams.

Here, we provide a simple 12-step guide that will help you install and connect Xvision’s IP CCTV security camera. We’ll demonstrate how easy it is to run several types of installations, so you can be up, running and secure in no time at all.

Step 1: Prepare the camera. Screw the Wi-Fi antenna on to the side of the Xvision camera. Plug one end of the LAN cable into the camera and the other into the LAN port on your PC. A focus ring with LED lights lets you see what’s happening at night, up to 10m away from the camera.

Step 2: Install the setup software. Insert the Xvision installation CD and select IPWizard II Setup Software from the menu. Install the additional software provided on the disc if it’s likely to be of use to you – Xvision’s X64SW-Lite program lets you record and manage content from multiple cameras – then reboot the PC.
